Every time I turn on my laptop, it shows the XP sign next to the loading bar and after it nouns it has a plain black peak. I try to turn it off but it won't work.

Worked for me thrice surrounded by different PCs and w/ one of our peers here.
Then do a virus scan afterwards to check if a virus messed up your OS.
get your XP compact disc out and perform a Repair operation surrounded by XP Setup
Your copy of XP is corrupted. insert the XP cd and restart the PC. Then Boot from CD and make a system repair.
I had alike problem Last week but then the computer would reboot over and over
I tried to repair from the compact disc but couldn't so I have the Hard Drive within to be checked but I think it may in actual fact be a processor problem
I'm going to buy a new PC
