It sounds as if your drivers own become corrupted.
The best rthing to do, is go to My Computer, shift to the Control Panel, double-click the System icon. Select Hardware next select the the Device Manager tab, and click on Sound and Game Controllers.
You should see an entry that tells you what nouns card you are using. Go to the manufacturer's web site, next download and install the latest drivers for your card.
That should do it.
