Are laptops trackable?

I be just wondering if a Gateway laptop or if any laptop could be tracked if it be stolen.

Answer:

There are systems, but they need to be implement before the laptop is stolen. Some are software that will report to a server if its hooked to the internet, some are GPS hardware that can be tracked. Either track, needs to be installed preemptively.
There is a piece of hardware that can be put into you laptop, similar to LOJAC for cars also click the interconnect below for google search for others.
You denote physically tracked like a 'tracker' for cars? Or tracked by mode of the serial number if it fell into the hands of the police?

The former, no. Unfortunately. Cos if they could be tracked afterwards stolen laptops would have no helpfulness and people would stop stealing them.

The latter, yes. Undoubtedly if it get reported as stolen property.
Their are programs available to purchase that apparently send out emails showing where on earth or what the thief is doing. If you have a mac with a built contained by camera, it would send you photos of the robber.
